by: hoselrocketto Newport Country Club is a historic private club in Newport, Rhode Island, founded in 1893 and redesigned in 1923 by AW Tillinghast. It was one of the five original clubs that formed the United States Golf Association (USGA) and hosted the inaugural U.S. Amateur and U.S. Open in 1895. The club's championship legacy includes hosting the 1995 U.S. Amateur, famously won by a young Tiger Woods. Continuing its rich tradition, Newport also hosted the 2006 U.S. Women's Open and 2024 U.S.
