Understanding Course Settings
Every GSPro course has configurable settings that affect how the course plays. Designers often include recommended settings, which you can find on each course detail page on The Course View.
Wind Strength
Controls wind speed and variability. Options: Calm, Breezy, Moderate, Strong. Start with Breezy for a realistic but manageable experience.
Fairway Firmness
How much the ball rolls after landing on fairways. Firm = more roll (links-style), Soft = less roll (parkland after rain). Default: Medium.
Green Firmness
How much the ball bounces and rolls on greens. Firm greens require more spin to hold. Soft greens accept high approaches. Default: Medium.
Stimpmeter (Green Speed)
Measures how fast greens roll. 8-9 = average, 10-11 = country club, 12-13 = tournament speed, 14+ = extreme. Start at 10 and adjust.
Do settings differ by launch monitor?
Less than you'd think. Course settings describe the course, not the sensor: a links course wants firm and fast whether a GCQuad or an R10 is watching the ball. The designer's recommended settings (shown on each course page) are the right starting point on any hardware.
One practical exception: entry-level units that calculate spin rather than measure it tend to read high indoors, so greens hold more than they should. If that matches what you're seeing, keep stimp at 10-11 and green firmness at Medium instead of chasing tournament speeds.

Settings by Course Style
Getting started: first courses to play
If you're new to GSPro and still dialing in your setup, start with these:
- Beginner-friendly courses: wide fairways, forgiving rough, shorter layouts
- Par 3 courses: quick rounds, perfect for iron practice
Once you're comfortable, challenge yourself with the hardest courses in GSPro.
Tired of walking back to the PC to change settings mid-round? You can control GSPro from your phone while you play.
Gear that helps
Once your launch monitor is dialed in, a few accessories make indoor GSPro play more comfortable. These are the categories worth a look:
- Hitting mats (Amazon): easier on your wrists and your floor on off-center strikes.
- Impact screens (Amazon): a clean projection surface that takes ball strikes.
- Short-throw projectors (Amazon): they fill the screen from a few feet back without casting a shadow.
- Practice nets (Amazon): a lighter setup when a full enclosure is too much.
Building the room from scratch? The simulator build guide prices out complete setups at $2K, $5K, and $10K.
